Elk Fern on Timber Display

Elk Fern (Platycerium bifurcatum) mounted on timber is a striking way to display this popular epiphytic fern, mimicking how it grows naturally on tree trunks and branches. The plant produces distinctive, antler-like fronds and rounded shield fronds that gradually wrap around the timber backing, creating a lush, sculptural feature for shaded walls and outdoor living areas.

These timber-mounted elk ferns are ideal for hanging in protected patios, under pergolas, on verandahs, or in shaded garden spaces with good airflow. They prefer bright, indirect light or dappled shade and should be watered thoroughly, then allowed to drain well. Regular misting or soaking during warm weather, along with the occasional feed using a suitable fern or organic liquid fertiliser, will help keep them green and growing strongly.

As they mature, elk ferns will continue to expand across the timber mount, becoming an impressive living artwork that adds texture and greenery to vertical spaces.
