Description

This dwarf cultivar of Banksia ericifolia features fine, needle-like foliage and striking orange cylindrical flower spikes. It is perfect for small gardens, rockeries, or as a dense low-maintenance groundcover.

Heath-leaved banksia (Banksia ericifolia) is a well known shrub of the sandy coastal country of New South Wales. The dwarf form keeps the fine foliage and orange flower spikes but stays much smaller than the species, usually well under two metres, with a dense, bushy habit.

It flowers mostly in autumn and winter, when its nectar is welcome to birds and bees. Plant it in full sun in sandy or gravelly soil that drains freely, and water it until it is established. Avoid phosphorus-rich fertilisers. A light trim after flowering helps it stay compact.
