Anigozanthos (Orange) produces spectacular tubular flowers on tall stems that resemble a kangaroo paw. These plants thrive in sunny positions with good drainage and add a unique structural element to garden beds and containers.
This orange kangaroo paw is a tufted perennial from a genus native to Western Australia. It forms fan-shaped clumps of strappy leaves with branched flower stems covered in soft orange fur. It usually flowers in spring and summer, and the height of the flower stems depends on the variety.
Choose a sunny, open spot with sharp drainage and good air movement, which helps in coastal humidity. Water the soil rather than the foliage, and avoid heavy feeding. After flowering, cut the finished stems right down, and divide the clump every few years if it gets crowded.
