Description

Anigozanthos (Orange) produces spectacular tubular flowers on tall stems that resemble a kangaroo paw. These plants thrive in sunny positions with good drainage and add a unique structural element to garden beds and containers.

Kangaroo paws (Anigozanthos) are clumping perennials with strappy, mid green leaves. The velvety, tubular flowers, which are orange in this plant, are held on tall stems that can reach around a metre or more, and nectar-feeding birds are drawn to them.

Give them full sun and soil that drains very well, and water at the base rather than over the leaves, because humid weather can bring on ink spot, a leaf disease. Flowering is mainly in spring and summer. Cutting spent flower stems and old leaves down to the base keeps the clump fresh. They also grow well in pots.
